Favourite era of study: Victorian and Post-Colonial

Favourite author: Emilie Du Chatelet

Why you chose English Lit? I did not come to university knowing that English would be my major. I really disliked it in high school and I was not someone who was seen reading fiction daily; but, as I learned the potential for theoretical analysis, and Victorian horror, I knew it was the best decision I could've made alongside my philosophy degree!

Future plans: I plan on earning a MA in English before my law degree... but who knows.

Favourite hobby: If I am not hanging out with dogs, being a barista, or outside, then I am most definitely studying (it’s essentially become my hobby).

Favourite era of study: The Victorian Age

Favourite author: It changes all the time, but right now I have really been enjoying Celeste Ng.

Why you chose English Lit? I chose English because it was a way for me to study what I love (literature) while also learning valuable skills. English focuses a lot on writing and communication, presentation, and development of ideas. All of these skills will be helpful in my future career.

Future plans: I'm really interested in working in public relations!

Favourite hobby: Other than reading, of course, I've always loved dancing! I was a competitive dancer in high school.

Favourite era of study: Victorian Period

Favourite author: Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Why you chose English Lit? I’ve had an unfailing affinity for literature since I was little and I’m so happy I chose to study English at Queen’s. Reading prose and poetry, listening to my professors and classmates speak so passionately, and writing papers about what I love is genuinely fulfilling.

Future plans: I plan to earn my law degree and work in intellectual property.

Favourite hobby: Hiking and watching sitcoms

Favourite era of study: The Post-Modern Period. I do believe present literature would not exist without the literature of the past. However, the literature of today is a major assent to create radical change for the people of tomorrow.

Why you chose English Lit? I am passionate about literature. Literature has the power to create radical change in the world, it offers the opportunity to build and strengthen connections between people and provides a space for creativity to be expanded and captivated.

Daniel Green

Public Relations | English '?

Favourite era of study: Anything and everything modern. I’m generally a fan of literature published after the 19th century, and generally not a fan of literature published during or before it. I like books that are easy to read, ask good questions, and let me fall into their worlds with ease.

Favourite author: Terence M. Green

Why you chose English Lit? When I was tasked with the choice of what major to pick, I struggled a lot. Unlike most in my program, I was not an avid reader as a child. I opted for video games, movies, and television as my sources for instant entertainment. I fell in love with the odd book, but I was never constantly reading like I am now. I considered reading to be homework, not something that I’d do for fun. However, as I matured, I slowly gravitated toward books and learned how to take a deep breath, relax, and engulf myself in literature. Ultimately, I love narratives and I always have loved narratives. Some of the best stories that I’ve ever consumed were from media other than books. Choosing English was more of a gut instinct than anything. I never thought I was “destined” for it, even with my father being a serious author. Reading just came to me later in life. I love reading and writing stories.

“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.” – George R.R. Martin

Future plans:I would love to work in a creative space. Whether that be writing for television, movies, video games, or anything else, telling stories would be an ideal living. I’m also interested in journalism, especially sports journalism, and am involved with The Queen’s Journal. After I graduate, I’m becoming increasingly interested in pursuing an MFA in creative writing.

Favourite hobby: I love writing creatively and trying to get my stories published, reading, playing video games, and watching and playing basketball.
